In the light
and dark.
Solway shorelines, quiet encounters and the slow unveiling of an image.
Throughout my exploration of working with analogue photography and alternative photo processing methods, I have fiddled around with makeshift pin hole cameras, cyanotypes, and photograms. I suppose it's a preference - I love the slow magical unveiling of seeing a photo shift and develop from a few seconds of light... and the thrill of shuffling blindly in a dark room.
I have only dipped my toes in the depths of the digital camera realm - for capturing projects, events, processes and the odd day out.
Previous themes have centred around the Anthropocene, landscape recordings, movement, roadkill conservation, urban spaces during my summer semester in Germany, wild spaces, the natural environment and those who inhabit the landscapes around me.
Recent work captures areas around Dumfries and Galloway, my home. I have been drawn to the coastlines, Powillimount, Pow Foot and Carsethorn Beach, a few miles up and down the Solway. Tidal environments defined by exposure, erosion, and continual transformation where land, body, and memory stand in quiet alignment.
